Die Freie Reichsstadt Ulm nutzte das Gebäude über Jahrhunderte. Bei wichtigen Anlässen fanden auf dem Platz vor dem Zeughaus Bürgerversammlungen statt. Zwischen 1808 und 1919 wurde das Zeughaus als Kaserne genutzt.
Das ursprüngliche Gebäude wurde bis 1667 mehrfach erweitert. Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts schützte man den Sachwert der im Gebäude gelagerten Gegenstände auf zwei Millionen Gulden.

The Free Imperial City of Ulm used this building for centuries. On important occasions town hall meetings were held on the square in front of the armory. Between 1808 and 1919, the armory was used as barracks.
The original building has been extended several times until 1667. At the end of the 18th century the estimated value of the property stored in the building was estimated at two million guilders.
